Daniel isn't our youngest grandchild anymore, although he's still the most miniature version. Hailee Wilkins was born Mar 4. She was 21" long and weighed in at 8 lb 6 oz. Her brother and sister are very proud of her.

Long Overdue Update
It's been too long since we updated this blog spot. We've had some wonderful things happen in our family in the last five weeks. Daniel has made a lot of progress, even though he still has a long way to go. He's off the largest ventilator and is down to just one tube (his feeding tube) running down his throat. It's a little easier to move him around now, and both mom and grandma have had a chance to hold him.

Daniel T. McMillan
Almost 3 weeks old...
This was our first visit on a Saturday (19 days old). He gave us quite a scare. Just before we got to the hospital, the tubes leading to his lungs filled with blood. A doctor, two nurses, and a respiratory therapist were frantically working to stabilize him for most of the 3 hours we were there. His blood-oxygen levels were quite low through much of that time. The doctor has told Tim & Tracy that open heart surgery might be necessary.
Julyn (Randy's cousin's daughter) was his nurse that day. When she finally had the chance to talk to us, she told us her first thought after this incident started was, "I'm sure glad the parents aren't here." Shortly after that, we walked in and she thought, "Oh crap, the grandparents are here!"

One week old...
Daniel's in a 'tent' made from a 1 gallon freezer bag because he's having difficulty regulating his body temperature. The nurses first put him in the bag, but he didn't like it very much - he kept kicking and pushing on the bag and burning a lot of calories in the process. So they cut it along one edge and made a miniature pup tent out of it.
